For Calvert Elementary School's Writers Day, each student had to read 5 books from the California Collection and then write, illustrate, and publish their own book.
Mr. Daley's first grade class at Hamlin Elementary School in the San Fernando Valley created their own "Jack in the Pulpit" drawings after studying Susan Goldman Rubin's book WIDENESS AND WONDER.
For Pomelo Elementary School's California Character Day, each third grade student selects a book from the California Collection,
reads it, writes a one-minute speech, dresses up as the character,
and with a tap on the shoulder performs his speech. Learn more about ....

The mission of California Readers is to connect California children, young adults, and their school communities with California authors, artists and their creative works.
